Images Of Luxury
by Shauna Stallworth

Leonardo Acosta. Hardly a name for a furniture maker. The name sounds too lyrical, too exotic, too romantic. Just say it once. Leonardo Acosta his name rolls off your tongue as though you were speaking of an actor from Italy, Spain, Monte Carlo or Mexico. Possibly someone who'd spent time in southern California… or somewhere seductive like Baja West, Acosta's company fashions the same imagery of luxury and Old persons and companies, one such company was former Beverly furniture Co., now Mike Moore.

Baja West work has been featured in major design publication and its clients list registers some impressive clients both nationally and internationally. A partial list of clients the company has fabricated furniture and/or lighting

for includes: The Royal Garden Hotel of Waikiki, HI; the Dai-Ichi Hotel, Tokyo, Japan; Del Coronado Hotel, Coronado, CA; Borrego Spring Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe, CA; Last year, Baja West was subcontracted by the design firm HOK for the Legoland project in Carlsbad, CA, and most recently performed one of its largest

World charm, evoking images of charmed lifestyles where luxurious furniture and romantic lighting are de rigeur. A place where beautiful ideas are hand-crafted. Baja West was founded in 1979 after Acosta apprenticed with several well known European furniture manufactures from 1967 to 1979. His extensive experience included working directly with German, Austrian and Mexican master craftsman at the highly-regarded Hauser Custom furniture Co. in San Diego, CA. It was during these 12 years that Leo Acosta was able to perfect his skills as a master furniture fabricator. Baja West fabricates furniture designed by interior designers, architects, and well-recognized high-end furniture companies, lesser-known companies, commercial and residential firms and private clients. The company has always worked " behind the scenes" as the clandestine operation behind the more recognizable

jobs, the reproduction of antique lighting for The House of Hospitality of Balboa Park in San Diego, CA it has taken a few short years to build the company's solid reputation. Baja's ability to precisely fabricate furniture and/or lighting from drawings, blueprints, photographs or sketches is meticulously reviewed by Acosta himself. Nothing is taken for granted. Each piece delivered by his company has a stamp of approval from the president himself. "I take great pride in my work, my customers expect custom pieces that are not only beautiful but top quality in materials and craftsmanship. They also expect first-class service, which has been out priority since we open the doors in 1979. We have a 100 percent guarantee on labor and materials," says Acosta. "Just look at the letters we've received from clients, designers, furniture companies and even government officials. I'm passionate about this work and work hard at it every day. It doesn't matter if it's one custom or an order for the one hundred."
And Acosta has plenty of material to prove it, from numerous press clipping to magazine covers featuring his furniture to constantly being asked to fabricate custom pieces for designer show houses and showrooms. "We're always looking for new challenges. I like to work with designers and furniture companies that ask us to make items we've never built before or pose some challenge for my craftsmen. That's how we've learned and gotten better

over all these years" It's true. Baja West's reputation is synonymous with fine craftsmanship and loyal and dedicated customer service. And while the company has mostly been in the shadows of some of the industry's more visible furniture lines and lighting companies. Baja west is an undiscovered diamond in the furniture fabrication business rough. So when need custom furniture fabricated, call Baja West. The furniture is as beautiful, solid and lyrical as its president's name.
